About

Lauren Pettigrew - Vidal Sassoon 2010

The old Lauren would of sat here, typing away, and talked herself up, only to bring herself down with a hint of self-deprecating humour, making you, the reader, forget that at the beginning of the paragraph, Lauren was an overly-sarcastic [choice word here]. Thankfully, I haven’t changed much.

I try to keep introductions brief and succinct. I’m Lauren Pettigrew, at this moment in time I am 20, living in Montreal, and studying at Concordia. Rivetting, I know. I’m a journalism major, about to pick up a minor in “sex and sexuality”, which is really the PC way of saying I’m getting a minor in gay.

I started blogging when I was 15; those blogs haven’t amounted to much. Imagine everything that you used to write in your unicorn diary with your pen-with-neon-fluffy-feather-thing-on-top… Got it? That’s what I used to blog about.

Dear diary, today I fell even more madly in love with [gender neutral name here], “they” are the light of my life!

Now I’m on to bigger, but not really brighter (how can one get brighter than a unicorn diary? The bar has simply been set too high) things. By things, I mean this blog. This is the second version of Lauren Pettigrew Online, I believe that means it’s “v 2.0″. Admittedly, this version is much more flamboyant, but we all come out at different times in our lives, don’t we? But I digress, as I often do, this blog is, as the title states, about me. No, not in a unicorn diary sort of way. It’s about my outlook on life, and everything that happens around me.

I fall into niche groups; I longboard (poorly), I ride and build bikes, I have a growing collection of vinyl, I live off non-fiction, I’m vegan, I’m an environmentalist, I’m a socialist, I’m really fucking gay, oh, and I play folk music (even though I’m sure that fell under the umbrella term of “really fucking gay”). I love fringe society, pre-gentrification neighbourhoods, coffee shops which are owned and operated by people who live in the city, preferably right above the coffee shop in question. But what I do doesn’t make me qualified for most anything. You don’t hear:

Is there a fixie-rider with a really dry sense of humour in the house? My wife is having a baby!

That wasn’t very succinct, huh? Well, feel free to email me if you need more information (not that I haven’t covered the essentials already…), or if you want to suggest blog topics. Really, just drop me a line if you need anything; a warm body, even.
